Lion-hearted Amber keeps on fighting
Amber Fawell eats lemons like they're oranges and would serve herself Vegemite by the spoonful if she was allowed.She doesn't like sweets but craves savoury things. She has been sent to bed early in the past for requesting, then rejecting, food in apparently finicky fashion.
That was before doctors discovered a star shaped tumour - 3.2cm at its longest point - nestled somewhere amongst Amber's optic nerves, hypothalamus and pituitary gland.
It was playing havoc with her senses, they told parents Mick and Tanya Fawell, and it was growing.
"It's basically like morning sickness," Mrs Fawell said.
"We knew for over 12 months there was something wrong, but doctors kept saying 'she'll eat'."
The doe-eyed Unanderra four-year-old was made an inpatient of Wollongong Hospital last year when her weight dropped to a skeletal 10.75kg despite all efforts to make her grow.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging scans exposed the growth - called hypothalamic astrocytoma -
